June 28th, 2011 Coalition meeting notes

1. Next meeting scheduled for July 25th @ 630pm, VOA.

2. Community Readiness Assessment results discussed.

  • discussion to work toward family dinner campaign before Fall.
  • Mission and vision statements developed in response to data.

3. Blog and Facebook websites to be developed by Nigel

4. Assignment: recommend final changes to the bylaws after viewing on the blog.

5. ideas voiced: Carolyn suggests college color day, and posting scholarship awards on walls in schools so they are visible.  Discussion revolves around creating a culture of education among families in the Sultan School District.

2. Discussed and voted to adopt Kelso STOP Coalition Bylaws

3. Leadership Assessment presentation and discussion (see document: SVCC leadership readiness assessment report)

4. Immediate response to assessment presentation

  • increase issue awareness
  • more social networking tools
  • create more urgency in the community
  • Some interview questions needed clarity (leadership domains)
  • proceed with caution in our tactics to avoid negative community image

5. Announcement: Wednesday online Webinar 3-5pm, and Dr Anda lecture May 19th at Everett Mall.

  • Nigel to adapt Bylaws
  • Mission statement sentences from Coalition members to be e-mailed to Nigel, along with additional names of community members to participate in Community Readiness Assessment.

1.  Next meeting April 11th

2. Discussion: Community leaders want to apply for future DFC funds, and to be able to leverage state and local dollars into our community to support Drug and Alcohol prevention.

  1. community of service range defined as Sultan School district
  2. 3 teams established to work on clearly defining ourselves as a coalition: Bylaws and operating standards, Data and Analysis, Social Networking and Marketing

3. Discussion: Community readiness model as a diagnostic tool to assess ourselves and our community.  (idea well received, Nigel to begin work with County support)

4. assignment: meet with teams to discuss best practices for proceeding with Coalition development from your team’s perspective.
